The ideal end goal will take many stages and a long time to get to, but we’ve already started with reusable plastics replacing single-use plastics, which has been a mainstream theme for the past couple of years.
E.g most of my reusable grocery bags are definitely some type of plastic (polyester, nylon). Paper straws “melt”, metal ones “taste different”, but reusable plastic ones might be a compromise.
Not that I’m advocating for plastics, but I think there will have to be an uncomfortable transition period, as many won’t be open to the sacrifices of their luxuries, regardless of the “small price to pay”.
I found a funny meme the other day with a paper straw wrapped inside a clear plastic wrapper. I’m hoping it was one of those plant-based biodegradable “plastics”.
